Welcome to a brand new year. Are you full of anticipation for all you can accomplish in this year, like I am? I hope so. Do you have your goals for the year? Are you planning towards achieving your goals?

Do you know you can exponentially boost your potential for success in 2018 by simply being dedicated to the simple habit of GOALS PLANNING.

It is not enough to just set goals, and hope for the best you know… that’s a sure recipe for failure. You intentionally navigate towards success by planning. Sun Tzu said it best when he said ‘Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory; and tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.’

Your goal is your strategy, and your tactics are your plans.

Today, I’d like to share my approach for ensuring I plan efficiently and accomplish my goals.

Here goes…

1. Tie Your Plans to Your Goals

If your actions are going to have any impact on your goals, you have to link them to your explicit goals.

2. Write Down Your Plans

Your plans are your treasure map. You cannot get to the treasury without a map, can you?

3. Understand What You Are Up Against

When you are going into rugged terrain you really need to know what you are up against to give you a fighting chance at overcoming them. When you know what you are up against you can prepare in advance.

4. Be flexible

Sometimes even the best laid plans don’t go as planned. Don’t be rigid; when you are rigid you could hurt yourself. It’s always a good idea to cut yourself some slack [not so much that you are out of control] so you can pivot when needed.

5. Have a system

This is where the rubber hits the road. You need a system that works for you. The trick is NOT to leave your plans in your mind. So, you need to have your plans written down.

I use a system I created captured in my The Best of My Life Journal. This journal ensures that I working towards my goals on the vehicle of my plans.

The journal is available for purchase; contact me for information on how to get yours.

6. Execute

What good is a plan if you do not execute it? You have to work on your plan daily and record your actions in your copy of The Best of My Life Journal – or some other similar system. The beauty of journaling is it helps you see various sides of your plan and evolve your next move.

7. Review your plans daily

All of the top achievers attest to the value of reviewing your plans daily. You aren’t looking at the plans; you are looking at what you have accomplished. You are also gauging the obstacles you have encountered and the resources you will need for your next move. This is the most important part of your Goals Planning.

Finally, very few Personal Effectiveness experts have written as much about Goals Planning as Brian Tracy. So, I’d like to share his perspective on Goals Planning here. It’s my sincere hope that between my perspective and his, you would find something inspiring.

Wasn’t that insightful?

What I love best about Goals Planning and Daily Tracking is the fact that in these activities I am building my Personal Leadership muscles. Personal Leadership is a skill that will certainly head and shoulders above your peers.

Before I go, I want to recap the last blog post I shared. It was about ending the year productively. But its not too late to implement the action plans in the post. Check it out here, and lets see if we won’t knock it out of the park this year.

Do me a favour. At the bottom of this post you will see share links. Please share this post on your social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+) community. I thank you in advance.
