5 Ways to Turn Your Passion into a Fulfilling Life (Part 2)

By November 24, 2017 No Comments

Thank you for all the feedback following Part 1 of this topic. Lets recap: In Part 1, we said to turn your passion into a fulfilling life you need to first ACT swiftly. We also said COUNT the cost so you are taking a calculated risk as opposed to blind risk. Finally we said that it’s super important that you find your tribe. The goal is that you live a successful, rewarding and fulfilling life – a life you can be proud of. But what is a successful life?

Part 2 concludes (for now) our thoughts on this matter. We hope you enjoy it.

PLAN: I am almost manic about planning. I believe that anyone who fails to plan plans to fail. Planning is the secret key to unlocking success in attaining your goals, delivering on your responsibilities and becoming the best in class in your field.

You know we have finite resources; how else are we to steward these resources if we fail to plan carefully? I created a goals alignment system (available only from my company – Eva Wright) and the fulcrum of this system is the monthly plan to execute goals.

To plan effectively and efficiently, you need to have the following in place (these are all incorporated in my goals alignment system):

  1. Accountability (be very wary of anyone who does not have even one person s/he is accountable to)
  2. Routine (Many see routine as tedium, but it is not. Your routine is you creating new neural pathways in your brain that makes the task at hand easier and more intuitive leaving room for creativity and innovation.
  3. Investment (in time, money, resources etc)
  4. Opportunity cost (what are you willing to forego for the success of your plan?)

FAIL EARLY: I’ve found that the people that achieve the most in life and live fulfilling lives are those who have also failed the most. They have made calculated gambles and taken the plunge which sometimes just does not work out. But guess what? When they failed, they all failed early in their journey to a fulfilling life. Better to fail early than fail when the stakes are higher and all your chips are on the table.

Do you know one of the first things (after safety) that professional stunt people learn? They learn how to fall – safely. And they will practice falling so many times that falling becomes second nature to them. This way, when they are in danger while performing a stunt, they can allow themselves fall safely and probably spare their lives and limbs.

No one likes to fail, but failure can be an amazing teacher. I remember the first time I had to make a pot of basmati rice. I submerged the rice in a ton of water. You can imagine the clumpy, lumpy mess I had left when the rice had cooked. Now that is a fail, but guess what? Now I know not to use so much water when cooking basmati rice. Failure is an excellent teacher; if you would allow yourself learn the lesson.

The fear of the unknown will often lead you to avoid any action that could result in failure. This is paralyzing fear – it keeps you cemented to the spot and you cannot move forward to achieve anything. But I say rather than doing nothing because you are afraid; do something in spite of the fear. Do it afraid.

Your passion calls you to take action to create something new, to discover something, to become something better, to achieve more. Passion and action are two sides of the coin that lead to a fulfilling life. If any of us is going to live a fulfilled life, we need to be prepared to actually roll up our sleeves and work. Nothing good, valuable or special ever came on the back of inactivity.

Back to my very first question: What kind of life do you want to live? Do you want a satisfying, rewarding, meaningful, and purposeful life? Then you needs must boldly step out of your comfort zone, lean in, jump…do it NOW! Do something you have never done before, so that you may get something you have never gotten before (but need).
